I’m an unlikely entrepreneur.
After an exhaustive job search (and coming up with bupkis), I thought about how someone should create place for me and anyone who seeks meaning and greater connection to the places we choose to be 40 +/- hours/week. When no one stepped forward, (and er, full disclosure… after a few margaritas), my partner and I thought we were just the right people for that job! Now, I’m creating an online community (www.thegoodjobs.com) for people to share information about good jobs at good companies.
The Good Jobs publishes, well, good jobs. And wait, that’s not all! We also tell you WHY they are good — by providing relevant content about the companies’ employee practices so you know a lot more about the company before you hit the ‘Apply’ button. We think that where we spend our time counts. It has personal value to us – and to the lucky employers who benefit from our brainpower. What are we calling ‘relevant’ content? We believe that people want to know if a company offers flexible schedules (like – for when your child is sick, you can work from home). Do you want to know about companies that share their success? Perhaps you would like to work for a company that offers equity ownership? Or if the web cams at doggy day care don’t cut it, maybe you’d like to find a job where you can bring your dog to work a couple days/week? Good companies offer great perks because they understand the investment of a talented workforce (or the unknown but often higher cost of unengaged and unproductive employees). It’s only a matter of time before more people start to make conscious choices about where to take their talent. The Good Jobs is ready.
